I think the key concept here should be the word "symbol". The symbol used here for the diet was the "cookie" compared to pills, syrups and what ever falls under the medicine category. The success probably came because of the symbol used. Who wouldn't lke to get rid of extra pounds eating cookies? Now compare "eating cookies" with "taking pills".
